TalkTools® Tongue Tip Lateralization & Elevation Tools

TalkTools® Tongue Tip Lateralization & Elevation Tools

The TalkTools® Tongue Tip Lateralization and Elevation Tools are specialized oral motor instruments designed to teach tongue tip lateralization, elevation, and depression for improved feeding skills and speech clarity. Their handle design maintains a neutral jaw position to isolate tongue tip movement from jaw movement, building the tongue tip-jaw dissociation essential for functional articulation and feeding. Available in two types and two ball sizes, they address a range of clinical presentations and treatment levels.

Therapy Goals

  • Develop tongue tip lateralization, elevation, and depression in isolation from jaw movement for improved speech and feeding function.
  • Establish jaw stability to facilitate independent tongue tip movements as a prerequisite for advanced articulation therapy.
  • Build advanced tongue tip-jaw dissociation as a foundation for accurate production of tongue-tip-dependent speech sounds.
  • Address fascial restrictions associated with tongue tie through gentle tongue mobilization (does not stretch the frenulum).
  • Provide additional proprioceptive input and resistance for clients who require stronger sensory feedback during tongue tip exercises, using the larger 8 mm ball option.
  • Support treatment of tongue thrust patterns, swallow disorders, and articulation errors related to tongue tip positioning.
  • Two tool types (Elevation and Lateralization) and two ball diameters (4.7 mm and 8 mm) address a range of clinical presentations and therapy stages.
  • Original small ball with a redesigned easy-grip handle plus a new larger ball for clients needing additional sensory input or resistance.
  • Handle design maintains a neutral jaw position without causing jaw fatigue, isolating tongue tip from jaw for targeted therapy.
  • Easy-to-locate biting surfaces guide correct tool placement during clinical use.
  • Suitable for use with both children and adults across a wide range of diagnoses.
  • Made in the USA; FDA compliant, latex-free, lead-free, BPA-free, and phthalate-free.
  • Includes TalkTools original instruction booklet for therapist-guided implementation.
  • Children and adults with articulation errors related to tongue tip positioning, including lateral and frontal lisps.
  • Clients with tongue tie or fascial restrictions affecting tongue mobility and speech clarity.
  • Clients presenting with tongue thrust or swallow pattern disorders.
  • Speech-language pathologists addressing tongue tip articulation and feeding goals in OPT or OMT programs.
  • Feeding therapists working on oral phase control and tongue lateralization for chewing.
  • Occupational therapists supporting oral motor development and sensory processing.
  • Private practice, school-based, and early intervention settings.
